ACT TOOL · ONE KEPT PROMISE

Committed Action Plan

You keep every promise to everyone else. This one is to you - one step, one value, small enough to survive your actual week.
ACT · Committed Action Plan

Committed action, definedOne small step, pointed at a value, sized so you can actually keep it. Not a new life by Friday - one rep. The engine isn't the size of the step. It's the promise kept - and kept again.

Where the reps take you

Never a straight line. Some reps land, some get missed - and the win is the coming back.

21 days to rewire a thought.
21 weeks to rewire a life.

Your week doesn't have room for a program. It has room for one rep. Name the value, pick the step, cut the wish out of it, and shrink what's left until a bad week can't kill it. Then promise it out loud. When it's full: screenshot it, print it, or make a shareable card.

HOW TO WORK IT

The Five Moves

Work top to bottom. Tap a move to open it - and in the record below, tap any title to jump back here.

1 · Name the Value

Which value is this step for? One word from your compass. A step without a value is just another chore.

For example: “Steadiness.”

2 · Pick a Step

First draft, no editing. What would move you an inch toward that value this week?

For example: “Be more patient with him.”

3 · Step - or Wish?

The fork. A step can be filmed being done this week. A wish sounds noble and films nothing. Check the outside. The camera test: what exactly would it record? The words: “more, better, somehow, try to” is wish language; a step has a verb, a day, a size. Your body: a right-sized step settles you; an oversized one braces.

For example: “'Be more patient' films nothing. 'Sit with him for the first ten minutes after his nap' films fine.”

4 · Shrink It

Rewrite it small: verb, day, minutes. Small enough that a bad week can't kill it. The engine isn't the size of the step - it's the promise kept.

For example: “Sit with him for ten minutes after his nap, Tuesday and Thursday.”

5 · Promise It

Say it out loud. And plan the missed rep now: if the week eats it, what's the come-back version? The win is the coming back.

For example: “If I miss - one minute at the kettle with him, same day.”

The Value
Steadiness.
The Step
Be more patient with him.
The Sort
Camera films: sitting with him after his nap. The cut: “more patient” - noble fog, films nothing.
Shrink It
Sit with him for the first ten minutes after his nap, Tuesday and Thursday.
Promise It
If I miss - one minute at the kettle with him, same day.

The wish wanted a better person by Friday. The step wanted ten minutes, twice. The step wins - because it happens.

YOUR TURN

Your Action Plan

Type into each box. Tap a title to see what it means. Your “Say it” line builds at the bottom as you write.

The Value

Tap any that fit, then add your own:

The Sort

The fork: a wish is not a step, however good it sounds. Cutting the fog is not lowering the bar.

Not sure which half is which?

You don't have to feel for it. Check the outside signals.

The camera test. What would a camera record you doing, on which day? “Be more patient” records nothing. “Ten minutes after his nap, Tuesday” records fine.

The words. “More, better, somehow, really try” - wish language. A step has a verb, a day, a size.

Your body. A right-sized step settles you when you say it. An oversized one makes you brace - that's the tell to shrink it.

Step: “Walk to the mailbox after breakfast.” Wish: “Get my energy back.”

Cutting a wish down to a step isn't giving up on the wish. It's how wishes actually get built.

Shrink It

Small enough to keep. That is the engine.

The strength for the step isn't self-generated - it's supplied. One rep, His strength, again tomorrow. That's the whole arrangement.

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

Why it works

Each kept promise is evidence. Your brain files it, and belief in your own ability grows from that record - which makes the next step easier to start.

A general mechanism, not a guarantee. This supports good care; it doesn't replace it.
