ACT TOOL · ONE THREAD A WEEK

Tiny Connection Goal

The friendships didn't end. They just stopped getting fed. One small thread a week keeps the net that carries you.
ACT · Tiny Connection Goal

Tiny connection goal, definedIsolation grows quietly in a hard season - not by decision, just by drift. This plants one small reach-out a week: a text, a call, a cup of tea, pointed at a value and small enough to keep. One thread a week keeps the net alive.

Where the reps take you

Never a straight line. Some weeks the thread frays - and you climb anyway.

21 days to rewire a thought.
21 weeks to rewire a life.

Caregiving shrinks a world - not because you chose it, but because there was no time left over. You still need people. One reach-out a week, real not performed, small enough to keep. That's the whole assignment. When it's full: screenshot it, print it, or make a shareable card.

HOW TO WORK IT

The Five Moves

Work top to bottom. Tap a move to open it - and in the record below, tap any title to jump back here.

1 · Pick the Person

One person. Not a list - a face. Someone the season has drifted you from, or someone who steadies you.

For example: “My sister.”

2 · Pick the Value

What does reaching for them serve - friendship, family, faith? Name it. That's why this isn't a chore.

For example: “Family.”

3 · Real - or For Show?

The fork. A real reach-out shares something true or asks something real. A for-show one performs “fine, thanks” and connects nothing. Check the outside. The words: “should check in” is box-ticking; “I want to tell her” is real. The tell: does it risk a little truth? Your body: real has a small flutter; for-show feels flat.

For example: “'All good here x' - for show. 'Hard week. Tell me something normal' - real.”

4 · Shrink It

One text, one call, one cup of tea. Small enough to actually happen this week. A thread, not a rope.

For example: “One text, the honest kind.”

5 · Put It on the Week

Give it a day and a slot. Unscheduled reach-outs evaporate - this one gets a hook to hang on.

For example: “Wednesday, after his physio.”

The Person
My sister.
The Value
Family.
The Sort
Real: “Hard week. Tell me something normal.” Skipped: “All good here x” - performs fine, connects nothing.
Shrink It
That one text - the honest kind.
The Week
Wednesday, after his physio, while the kettle's on.

One honest text. She called back within the hour - the net was still there. It just needed one thread pulled.

YOUR TURN

Your Reach-Out

Type into each box. Tap a title to see what it means. Your “Say it” line builds at the bottom as you write.

My Reach-Out
The Value

Tap any that fit, then add your own:

The Sort

The fork: connection risks a little truth. Performance risks nothing and delivers nothing.

Not sure which one you drafted?

You don't have to overthink it. Check the outside signals.

The words. “Should check in, owe her a text” - box-ticking. “I want to tell her about Tuesday” - real.

The tell. Does it ask a real question, or share one true thing? Then it connects. If it just performs “fine”, it doesn't.

Your body. A real reach-out has a small flutter before you send it. For-show feels flat - because nothing is at stake.

Real: “Hard week. Tell me something normal.” For show: “All good here x.”

Sending a flat one now and then still counts as a thread. The real ones just hold more weight.

Two are better than one - not because you're weak, but because you were built for a body of people. Letting one person in isn't a burden on them. It's how God carries you.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up."

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Why it works

Connection runs on pathways, and pathways strengthen with use - cells that fire together wire together. One small rep a week keeps the wiring alive at both ends.

A general mechanism, not a guarantee. This supports good care; it doesn't replace it.
