DBT TOOL · A MINUTE OF QUIET

Pocket Mindfulness

When there is no time and nowhere to go, but you need a breath of quiet - this fits in the smallest gap of your day.

Pocket Mindfulness, defined

Pocket Mindfulness, defined Pocket mindfulness is a tiny, portable practice you can do anywhere in under a minute. Pick one anchor, rest your attention on it, and gently come back when you wander. A pocket of quiet you can reach for in the hallway, the car, the waiting room.

Never a straight line. You drift a hundred times, you return a hundred times - that is the whole practice.

21 DAYS TO REWIRE A THOUGHT.
21 WEEKS TO REWIRE A LIFE.

You do not need a cushion or twenty minutes. You need one minute and one anchor. Rest on your breath, or your feet, or the cup in your hand. When your mind runs off, bring it back - gently. That is the whole thing.

3 · Come back

When your mind drifts, and it will, walk it back to the anchor - kindly, no scolding.

4 · Step back and tell the difference

Drifting over and over is not failing - it is the practice. Step back, notice where you went, and gently return. No scolding. Use the prompts in the record to tell it apart.

Even a minute of stillness is an open door. You get quiet, and you remember you are not carrying any of this alone.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Psalm 46:10 · NIV
Why it works

Resting attention on one anchor calms the mind's restless wandering network and its background chatter - read the research.

A general mechanism, not a guarantee. This supports good care; it does not replace it.
